"To honor history and tradition and allow for self-expression through the art of lion dance."

What We Do

As a Lion Dancer, engaging in this traditional art form is one of the many ways in which we honor our roots. All of our members grew up in the Asian diaspora, and several have never been to the places from which their immigrant forbearers came. But most importantly, Lion Dancing allows us to connect with each other––a conglomeration of individuals who, despite vast differences, can meet each other where they’re at. Although Lion Dance may seem frivolous and playful, there is a surprising amount of discipline and tenacity involved. For example, we share many of our basic stances with martial arts such as kung fu. But unlike Kung Fu, the raison d’être of Lion Dance is performance. Nothing beats the satisfaction of seeing children’s faces light up as they try petting the lion, or hearing the audience gasp after pulling off a difficult stunt.
