"BEAM brings hands-on STEM education to local, underserved elementary schools. We aim to make science education more accessible and equitable (and fun!) and improve student attitudes towards science."

What We Do

BEAM partners with two local underserved elementary schools to provide a weekly, hour-long lesson to 4th- and 5th-grade students. Our lessons teach core science or engineering principles and center around an engaging hands-on activity so the students can explore the concepts for themselves. Some of our lessons include roller coasters, robots, and stomp rockets. We have a weekly curriculum meeting to prepare for upcoming lessons and develop new curriculum. These happen Mondays 6-7pm PT. Our lessons are Thursdays and Fridays 3-4pm PT in weeks 3 through 8. All meetings and lessons for the 2020-2021 school year will be virtual. BEAM is open to students of any major who enjoy science and working with kids! Check us out if you’re interested in empowering future scientists & engineers and want to join a fun community on campus.
