"The mission of the UCLA Nikkei Student Union is to organize social and community service activities as well as to promote Japanese-American cultural and political awareness among the student body."

What We Do

UCLA Nikkei Student Union (NSU) is a Japanese American cultural and social club at UCLA that was founded in 1981 as an alternative to Asian fraternities and sororities at the time. Since then, NSU has become a diverse group that seeks to bring people together over a shared connection to or interest in Japanese culture. We have weekly general meetings that focus on learning about Japanese American culture and giving people an opportunity to make new friends and connections to others in our community. We host a wide range of events including but not limited to: board game/video game nights, clubbing events, basketball tournaments, community volunteering events, and discussions about Japanese American experiences with guest speakers. We don’t have a formal recruitment process and none of our events are mandatory! Just show up when you want to throughout the year to however many events you like and become part of the NSU family!
