"Bruins Fighting Pediatric Cancer (BFPC) is a student-run organization filled with passionate members dedicated to the mission of “never letting cancer cloud the joy of being a kid.” Since its inception, BFPC continues to support this goal through its myriad of programs focused on pediatric cancer fundraising, education, and patient care. Additionally, BFPC seeks to be a campus community that provides peer support and friendship for students touched by pediatric cancer."
What We Do
BFPC is devoted to joining the world-wide movement to find a cure for every child with cancer. We pursue our mission in three ways: by raising awareness and educating those who do not know much about pediatric cancer, by volunteering at pediatric oncology clinics, camps, and events, and by fundraising to support pediatric cancer clinical research. With a focus on patient care, BFPC fosters a sense of community and encourages youth empowerment and inclusivity by hosting biweekly activity nights for the families staying at the Los Angeles Ronald McDonald House (LARMH). BFPC also volunteers at UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital in the Outpatient and inpatient Pediatric Oncology Clinics by providing an opportunity for child play and peer interaction for the patients and their families. Cranes for Cancer is our organization’s signature fundraising event in which we include educational aspects, guest performers and speakers, and the main event of the night—honoring those affected by pediatric cancer by presenting a shadow box filled with 1000 origami cranes as a wish of prosperity and good health. Despite the current pandemic, we will continue to offer our members with opportunities to volunteer with patients, educate others, and fundraise—all through online mediums!
